Let me introduce you to our new etiquette expert, Kristen DeSanto. She is a go-getter and we are thrilled to have her teaching Manners To Go.
She is a mother of two boys, an entrepreneur and she has already gotten a fast start. And wow, is she creative.
Her students are going to love her.
The name of her new business is, Modernly Mannered, FUNdementals for Life. Take a look at her logo here:
Kristen created this and engaged a graphic designer to refine it even before we had completed her etiquette training.
Before her certification was complete, a plan was in place to teach. In fact, today we are talking about her options on how to market her new programs.
Her sons play LaCrosse, so naturally this is a great place for her to start. She has a strong connection to the sports community in her city.
Becoming an entrepreneur is a rewarding journey. In fact, I think once you have an entrepreneurial spirit, it never leaves you. This spirit becomes a part of your DNA.
Owning a business certainly has its challenges but the rewards are great.
With Manners To Go , you get to work with your passion everyday. Your work never feels like work. FREEDOM is one of the highlights.
If you are looking to start immediately and save money on travel and time, then this is your best option. You choose the dates of our trainings. Most choose to have their sessions once a week, others twice. This is a “live” and private training. It is NOTself-guided.

On Saturday afternoon, I had such a lovely conversation with a potential licensee.
We spoke about all the things….etiquette, her background, why manners matter, why children need them today….etc. etc. etc.
Actually, to me it was the perfect way to spend part of my Saturday.
She asked a really good question, “which training should I choose”? We offer “live” video sessions or an in-person event….one that is private and shoulder to shoulder.
And my answer to her was this: “how do you like to learn”. When you are considering any type of training, whether it is to learn a new computer skill, creative writing techniques or learning a new language, you must consider your personal preference.
My conversation with her is the inspiration for this post.
I could hear her first choice in her voice. She came alive when we started talking about the in-person/immersion option.
In my eyes, all of my licensees are special. THEY make the experience beautiful, charming, valuable, eclectic and interesting.
Keep reading if you want to discover more about our trainings and why we choose certain locations.
Etiquette Certification: Location Matters
Let me explain. I love beautiful things and experiences, and I believe location matters.
That is why, when an in-person event is scheduled, I go all in. I personally am involved with the planning.
I am proud to let you know I choose the most beautiful and special places to hold our trainings.
A bed and breakfast inn in the south was such a stylish and eclectic space and walking distance from museums and a bustling city life. I read about it on Goop.
Each afternoon, the inn sat out lovely trays of petite fours and tarts. Iced and hot tea was always available. The weather was pristine and we sat outside on the covered porch for some of our training.
Etiquette Training at The Ritz Carlton
We are so lucky to have this establishment in the US. A few weeks ago, I trained a new licensee in both our children’s and business etiquette programs. What a delight she was!
The Ritz is unparalleled in service. If you want to experience excellent customer service, then go to a Ritz Carlton…anywhere!
My favorite line is from The Ritz and they say it so well – “it’s my pleasure”.
I have used The Ritz many times when we have our trainings over afternoon tea. Their scones are the best ever and their service is like no other.
If you want to experience white glove service, then choose a city that has a The Ritz Carlton.
Etiquette Training and Certification at Tiffany’s in New York City
The most coveted reservation, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one to cherish.
And, yes, you will want the teacup…the teapot…and the special blend of Tiffany’s tea!
This one is for the record books.
I also had lunch there and it is as charming as tea.
Etiquette Training Session at the Most Eclectic Book Store EVER
I have lost count on the number of people I have told about this location.
It is charming.
It is eclectic.
It is the most interesting place I have held an etiquette training.
This book exchange has it all. A library. A book store. A boutique. My most favorite salad. A tea salon. Multiple baristas to make anything your heart desires.

We suggest you commit to training for the first 30 days of your certification. After this is completed, we ask you to set up on-going consultations as you need them. This allows you the time necessary take action on many of the marketing tasks suggested in the training.
2. How long is the licensing term?
The term of use is for three years. After three years, you have the choice to renew.
3. Is there a charge for the on-going support (for three years)?
Absolutely not! This is included in your fee.
If you choose our “live” video training option, we suggest you spend an entire month with us…via video, learning the materials and the process.
Most choose to have their training once a week, others want to batch it in closer increments. That is up to you.
We also offer an intensive private in-person training option. Discover all the details below about our etiquette training options.
Whatever speed you choose, video or in-person, the support is still on-going.

Stay with me here. Today’s post is more of a technical one and it is important.
I am addressing what is means to be licensed and certified.
As a Manners To Go licensee, you have been granted legal permission by our company use our curriculum. You have our permission to use our copyrighted materials and artwork during our licensing period. Don’t worry, it can be renewed (if you choose) for nominal fee for another three years.
We (Manners To Go and The American Academy of Etiquette) officially train you to teach the subject matter.
When you are certified, you can now let others know you have met certain standards and are qualified to teach the subject matter.
A certification of any kind is the process of someone or an institution attesting to a status or a level of achievement.
On-going support is ALWAYS available to you during your three-year license.
And here is the problem….if you don’t become certified
You will risk the chance to be credible in your field
Your reputation is at risk by not becoming certified. You may not appear to be as professional as you could be
You simply don’t have any idea on how to get started writing an entire curriculum for children and teenagers
How do you know if what you plan to teach is correct? Can you believe everything you read online or in videos?

Start Teaching Manners to Children: Get off the Sidelines and Create Your Business
Before starting Manners To Go, I would watch others start their business. They had drive and ambition… they wanted something to call their own.
I watched from the sidelines.
I played small while others played big. I know many of us feel this way.So many of us stand on the sidelines watching others go for their dreams and start amazing things.
Finally, one day I took the leap.I started Manners To Go while I was still working at my corporate job.Yes, I was one of those….juggling two things at once.
Part of me thought is was ridiculous and impossible. At the time, I was working for Levi Strauss & Company and living in Dallas. I remember driving home one evening on the North Dallas Tollway doubting and questioning my endeavors.
Could I really pull this off? Could I make this work? Could I make it as a business owner?
I did.
And I have never looked back.

Raise Your Hand ifYou Think Children Get Value Out of a Manners Class
Keep reading to learn what stood out the most when I was training a new licensee over the weekend.
Today is my first day back in the office.I have been in Washington DC/Tyson Corner the past few days training Awo Poku in a dual certification of children’s and business etiquette.
We spent three action packed and intense days together at The Ritz Carlton.
Our first meeting was the welcome breakfast. It was a crisp morning full of sunshine and over the top service. As you know, the Ritz is known for their impeccable level of service and attention to detail.
What really stood out for me on this particular Saturday morning was my initial conversation with Awo.
Awo was telling me a story. I was glued from the moment she sat down. She told me about the time she dropped her two sons off at this very Ritz for a manners class. Her children were all dressed up in suits and ties.Remember those!
She went on to tell me her heart warming experience as a mother and the value her boys gleaned from the class.
What they learned in that class is still with them today as young men in their thirties.
Her sons are polite, confident and socially aware to this day. This class not only helped them personally but professionally.
This is one of the reasons she wants to start a business teaching life skills to children. She knows the value of a manners class for children.
If you were in a room of people and the trainer/speaker asked, “raise your hand if you see the value for children taking a manners class”…what would you do?
Would you raise your hand?
Do you have your own experiences as a mother, grandmother or child?Have you seen first hand the value of a manners class?
We would love to hear YOUR story.
Contact us by sending an email.
Stay tuned for more of Awo’s story.I can’t wait to share.
