Jackie Kennedy Public Private and Secret

Jackie Kennedy Public Private and Secret -is a book that captured my attention.  It is a quick and fascinating read about a woman who is elegant, confident and certainly had and still has a presence.

Did you know Jackie, at the age of 21, was chosen out of 1,279 candidates to become a junior editor at Vogue magazine in 1951? She was to spend six months working in New York and another six months at their office in Paris. Jackie’s mother had a great deal of influence with Jackie.  She persuaded her daughter to quit after her first day as this assignment would have her in an office of mostly women.  Jackie would not be around prominent young gentlemen.  Her mother wanted her to find the most eligible suitor.  Also, her mother was afraid that if Jackie were to go and live in Paris, she would never come home!

Jackie soon landed a job as a columnist at The Washington Times Herald.  And her life did change.  She met John F. Kennedy.

Jackie was beautiful, determined and very smart.  She set boundaries and knew what she wanted.

She is credited for a major redesign of  The White House.  Due to her love of architecture and history, she preserved Grand Central Station.

As an etiquette expert, you will find yourself thinking of Jackie Kennedy often. She is the epitome of a confident, elegant and magnetic woman.  Her style will always be with us.

I highly recommend this book. I found myself many times sitting by the fire with a cup of tea devouring it.
