Apr 15, 2025 | High School

Our video today discusses three important tips from our manners curriculum and lesson plans for high school students that you can easily teach in your classroom. These are simple yet transformative tools that support your students in developing confidence, social awareness, and leadership skills.

High school students need good manners. As an educator, you have the unique opportunity to model and teach these timeless skills. Whether you’re implementing a full manners curriculum or introducing short etiquette lesson plansthroughout the week, we are here to guide you in making a meaningful mark on today’s youth.

Below are three essential and effective etiquette lesson plan ideas you can start using immediately:

Tips on How to Make a Good First Impression for High School Students

A very important basic skill every high school student needs to use. Eye contact communicates self-assurance, respect, and attentiveness. When students learn to look someone in the eye during a conversation or handshake, it helps them build trust, stand out in interviews, and create authentic connections. This one skill alone can help set the tone for how they are perceived by teachers, college admissions, and future employers.

Conversation Skills:
One of the most requested topics, conversation skills are important to build relationships and to function as an adult. Help your students practice how to start a conversation, show genuine interest in others, and listen without interrupting. Strong communication skills are part of every great etiquette curriculum and are essential for leadership, collaboration, and future career success. This is also a wonderful opportunity to model empathy, emotional intelligence, and active listening.

Posture:
A very important part of a first impression is posture. Guide your students to sit up straight, walk with confidence, and avoid slouching or closed-off body language. Posture is one of the most overlooked aspects of executive presence—yet it speaks volumes. Encourage students to become aware of how they show up physically in a space. Watch the video for “live” instruction and see how this tip can shift the energy of your entire classroom.
