In-Person and Online Video Etiquette Certification Training

On Saturday afternoon, I had such a lovely conversation with a potential licensee.

We spoke about all the things….etiquette, her background, why manners matter, why children need them today….etc. etc. etc.

Actually, to me it was the perfect way to spend part of my Saturday.

She asked a really good question, “which training should I choose”? We offer  “live” video sessions or an in-person event….one that is private and shoulder to shoulder.

And my answer to her was this: “how do you like to learn”.  When you are considering any type of training, whether it is to learn a new computer skill, creative writing techniques or learning a new language, you must consider your personal preference.

My conversation with her is the inspiration for this post.

I could hear her first choice in her voice. She came alive when we started talking about the in-person/immersion option.

In my eyes, all of my licensees are special.  THEY make the experience beautiful, charming, valuable, eclectic and interesting.

Keep reading if you want to discover more about our trainings and why we choose certain locations.

Etiquette Certification: Location Matters

Manners To Go Licensees Holding Etiquette Certification

Let me explain.  I love beautiful things and experiences, and I believe location matters.

That is why, when an in-person event is scheduled, I go all in.  I personally am involved with the planning.

I am proud to let you know I choose the most beautiful and special places to hold our trainings.

A bed and breakfast inn in the south was such a stylish and eclectic space and walking distance from museums and a bustling city life.  I read about it on Goop.

Each afternoon, the inn sat out lovely trays of petite fours and tarts.  Iced and hot tea was always available.  The weather was pristine and we sat outside on the covered porch for some of our training.

Etiquette Training at The Ritz Carlton

We are so lucky to have this establishment in the US.  A few weeks ago, I trained a new licensee in both our children’s and business etiquette programs.  What a delight she was!

The Ritz is unparalleled in service.  If you want to experience excellent customer service, then go to a Ritz Carlton…anywhere!

My favorite line is from The Ritz and they say it so well – “it’s my pleasure”.

I have used The Ritz many times when we have our trainings over afternoon tea.  Their scones are the best ever and their service is like no other.

If you want to experience white glove service, then choose a city that has a The Ritz Carlton.

Etiquette Training and Certification at Tiffany’s in New York City

Etiquette Certification and Training Tiffany's New York City

The most coveted reservation, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one to cherish.

While we did not go for breakfast,  afternoon tea did not disappoint.  Tiffany’s is ideal for our etiquette trainings.  Let your imagination go wild with this one.

The decor.

The place settings.

The iconic blue at Tiffany’s.

And, yes, you will want the teacup…the teapot…and the special blend of Tiffany’s tea!

This one is for the record books.

I also had lunch there and it is as charming as tea.

The 6 things I wish I had known when starting my etiquette business free guide

Etiquette Training Session at the Most Eclectic Book Store EVER

I have lost count on the number of people I have told about this location.

It is charming.

It is eclectic.

It is the most interesting place I have held an etiquette training.

This book exchange has it all.  A library.  A book store. A boutique.  My most favorite salad.  A tea salon.  Multiple baristas to make anything your heart desires.

A Special Etiquette Training

All of the above locations are wonderful.

What really makes an etiquette training special?

You.  You really make it for me.

I can’t tell you all the special bonds I have made over the years.

In my eyes, all of my licensees are special.  They make the experience beautiful, charming, valuable, eclectic and interesting.

Here is the good news, the relationship we create does not end after our training.

We are together for three years.  Have you read our article about our on-going training when become certified?

If you haven’t you must.

Children’s Etiquette Certification: Our Support is On-Going

We are not the company that loves and leaves you. Our etiquette certification training includes my on-going support for your full three-year term.

Yes, to clarify- that is human support. You have my attention on your business – as much want.  You only have to ask!

Here are three of our most frequently asked questions about our Etiquette Certification Training:

  1. How many sessions?

We suggest you commit to training for the first  30 days of your certification.  After this is completed, we ask you to set up on-going consultations as you need them.  This allows you the time necessary take action on many of the marketing tasks suggested in the training.

2. How long is the licensing term?

The term of use is for three years.  After three years, you have the choice to renew.

3. Is there a charge for the on-going support (for three years)?

Absolutely not!  This is included in your fee.

If you choose our “live” video training option, we suggest you spend an entire month with us…via video, learning the materials and the process.

Most choose to have their training once a week, others want to batch it in closer increments.  That is up to you.

We also offer an intensive private in-person training option.  Discover all the details below about our etiquette training options.

Whatever speed you choose,  video or in-person, the support is still on-going.

Starting a business is exhilarating and ambitious but there will be days when you will not have a clue what to do.

That is when you call us.  And I love it when you do.

Here are the types of questions we have been asked over the years:

  • Can you help me with the name of my business?
  • Do you like logo #1, 2 or 3?
  • Would you be able to review the copy on my new website?
  • Do you have a resource for a website developer?  Who should I choose?
  • How do I teach a table manners course over a Zoom call?
  • What is going to happen to the “handshake”?
  • Can you still be engaging over a Zoom call?
  • Which online video service provider do you use?
  • How is teaching a Boy Scout troop different than a Girl Scout troop?
  • A parent in Germany wants me to teach their children over a Zoom call. Help!
  • How much can I charge a school that wants me to teach 6 sessions after school?
  • Can you take a look at a proposal that I wrote for a private instruction?
  • Would you be able to set a time to talk about an article I am writing for my community?
  • Can you take a look at new marketing piece that I created?
  • The parents want to attend the private instruction. Is this something you recommend?
  • If I move, may I teach in my new location?
  • How do I get local publicity?
  • Would you be available to collaborate on a book/program?
  • Would you be available to do a Facebook live with me?

I could go on and on!  All of the above is taught in our trainings but sometimes a review or validation is needed.

We understand.  Our training is intense. The materials you receive are vast.

I am here to help you.  We have been in business for 20 years.  I have heard it all!

Recently, I signed-up to learn a new skill with a company.  This was a software company that said they offered “support”.

Now days, when a company says they offer “support”, you must ask questions.  One question that you need to ask is, “what type of support”.

Does support mean, asking a question in the box at the top right that says, “help”?

Does it mean a chat box?

Does it mean asking an “assistant” that needs to get back to you in a week?

When a company offers “support” does that mean by email only?  How frustrating is this one!

You choose the type of support you want from us. It is always a “human” response.  Your questions are addressed to me. I answer them directly.

You may:

Pick up the phone and call

Text me

Schedule a time to speak with me personally

Email

Direct message me on Instagram or Facebook

What’sApp

WeChat

The choice is yours. We encourage and expect you to ask us for help.

It is our pleasure.

You Can Help Parents Raise Kind, Confident and Mannerly Children

My heart goes out to children.  I often wonder what is happening to their ability to connect.  What is it like for them to build relationships with their friends at the moment? How about with other adults outside of their parents?

Many children have dealt with this for years as we have become so accustomed to our lives orbiting around our digital devices.

What is in store for this generation that has been robbed of social interactions now for almost a year and tied to devices to make somewhat of a human connection.?

I do know this- we can help them.

Parents need us to help them teach their children about kindness, respect, good manners and confidence.

Over the years as I have worked with parents and teachers, I often hear the comment “they will listen to you more than me”- meaning, when teaching manners, children listen to a third party. For some reason this is the way of the world.

How and Where Can You Teach Manners to Children Right Now in 2021

You might be asking yourself by now, “how can I help”.

  1. Parents are looking for creative ways to supplement their children’s education.  In fact, this has been the case for years.

You can teach manners to children in their home (depending on state’s Covid guidelines).  This is part of our licensing and certification training.  We have all the lesson plans and handout as well as the marketing materials for you to get started with private instructions with families.

A private manners instruction was one of my favorite ways to teach children.

When we train you, you learn how to instruct this way as well as the fees to charge.  You also discover how to customize this type of instruction.

2. There has been a focus at the school level in many states to focus on the whole child.  Character building programs are sought out by many school districts.

This is where you come into play.  Why not offer a virtual etiquette event for schools?

Teachers need your help.  School counselors are looking for ideas to assist  with programs that promote the whole child.

In our etiquette training and certification program, we show you how to connect with schools.  Everything is done-for-you.

What It Means to Be Licensed & Certified to Teach Manners To Go

Stay with me here.  Today’s post is more of a technical one and it is important.

I am addressing what is means to be licensed and certified.

As a Manners To Go licensee, you have been granted legal permission by our company use our curriculum.  You have our permission to use our copyrighted materials and artwork during our licensing period. Don’t worry, it can be renewed (if you choose) for nominal fee for another three years.

We (Manners To Go and The American Academy of Etiquette) officially train you to teach the subject matter.

When you are certified, you can now let others know you have met certain standards and are qualified to teach the subject matter.

A certification of any kind is the process of someone or an institution attesting to a status or a level of achievement.

On-going support is ALWAYS available to you during your three-year license.

And here is the problem….if you don’t become certified

  • You will risk the chance to be credible in your field
  • Your reputation is at risk by not becoming certified. You may not appear to be as professional as you could be
  • You simply don’t have any idea on how to get started writing an entire curriculum for children and teenagers
  • How do you know if what you plan to teach is correct? Can you believe everything you read online or in videos?

Start Teaching Manners to Children: Get off the Sidelines and Create Your Business

Before starting Manners To Go, I would watch others start their business.  They had drive and ambition… they wanted something to call their own.

I watched from the sidelines.

I played small while others played big. I know many of us feel this way.  So many of us stand on the sidelines watching others go for their dreams and start amazing things.

Finally, one day I took the leap.  I started Manners To Go while I was still working at my corporate job.  Yes, I was one of those….juggling two things at once.

Part of me thought is was ridiculous and impossible.  At the time, I was working for Levi Strauss & Company and living in Dallas. I remember driving home one evening on the North Dallas Tollway doubting and questioning my endeavors.

Could I really pull this off? Could I make this work?  Could I make it as a business owner?

I did.

And I have never looked back.

Raise Your Hand if You Think Children Get Value Out of a Manners Class

Keep reading to learn what stood out the most when I was training a new licensee over the weekend.

Today is my first day back in the office.  I have been in Washington DC/Tyson Corner the past few days training Awo Poku in a dual certification of children’s and business etiquette.

We spent three action packed and intense days together at The Ritz Carlton.

Our first meeting was the welcome breakfast.  It was a crisp morning full of sunshine and over the top service.  As you know,  the Ritz is known for their impeccable level of service and attention to detail.

What really stood out for me on this particular Saturday morning was my initial conversation with Awo.

Awo was telling me a story. I was glued from the moment she sat down.  She told me about the time she dropped her two sons off at this very Ritz for a manners class. Her children were all dressed up in suits and ties.  Remember those!

She went on to tell me her heart warming experience as a mother and the value her boys gleaned from the class.

What they learned in that class is still with them today as young men in their thirties.

Her sons are polite, confident and socially aware to this day.  This class not only helped them personally but professionally.

This is one of the reasons she wants to start a business teaching life skills to children. She knows the value of a manners class for children.

If you were in a room of people and the trainer/speaker asked, “raise your hand if you see the value for children taking a manners class”…what would you do?

Would you raise your hand?

Do you have your own experiences as a mother, grandmother or child?  Have you seen first hand the value of a manners class?

We would love to hear YOUR story.

Contact us by sending an email.

Stay tuned for more of Awo’s story.  I can’t wait to share.
